Quick Takes #8

1. I require a Starbucks today. It's a life or death situation here people! Seriously, my kids are sucking the life out of me and without good, overpriced coffee I might not make it. Quick dose of reality says: I'm not deathly ill anymore and my kids know it so they have decided to be as high energy and crazy as possible. Thank God today is gymnastics day and they will get to burn off some energy there while I rest, chat, and get a bit of studying done. Oh, and drink my Starbucks of course. Can't forget that, I drive right by it on the way there and it has a drive through, what more could I ask for? Maybe a muffin....

2.We started planting for the garden. Hubby was wonderful and did all of the outside planting and scrubbed pots while I was sick. I set up all of the little starter pods for the indoor seedlings. Out of 11 little pods so far 2 of them have started growing. Now I just need the other 9 to hurry up and start.

3. I am running behind in most of my classes right now. Being sick took a lot out of me and nothing was done during that week. That means tonight and this weekend will be spent catching up on everything, especially since the due dates for a lot of things are basically right now. Yikes!

4. I have no patience when it comes to whining. I can't stand it. As soon as the whining starts, even if whatever is happening wouldn't normally bother me, I reach the end of what I can deal with. I can't figure out how to stop the whining, but it has got to go. Suggestions?

5. I either need a much bigger front yard or I need to cut a few things out of my list of plants for the front yard.

6. Squish is 17 months and 2 days old. I'm not sure how she could possibly be almost 18 months old already. Where does the time go?

7. It's time to start getting documents together. I have one month left and then it'll be time to register Princesa for kindergarten. Again, where does the time go?

Check out more Quick Takes!

  1. 4. I haven't been able to eliminate whining, but its getting better. I always reply "I can't understand you when you whine" and ignore whatever they are requesting until they are speaking in a normal voice.

  2. I sweet friend! So glad to hear that you are feeling better!

I have no solution to the whining either...it wasn't tolerated by my parents, but I don't think it really stopped me...maybe just limited the amount I could whine. As Mary will be 6 in August, she has really just begun experimenting with whining! Good luck with that!

What I wouldn't give for some outdoor time...our ground is still covered with snow and frozen solid. Last year was such a warm winter that we stared our seedling about now and were able to transfer in March...not so this year...our ever-reliable weather forecaster is promising several snowstorms still in the works...today is a balmy 21 degrees..AAAARGH!!!

Finally, I have no idea how we could possibly have kindergartners next year, but in preparing for Kindergarten Round-up, I discovered that I NEVER ordered birth certificates from the state...OH MY!!!

Here's to a speedy state bureaucracy! LOL

    Take care,
    Valerie

  3. Young Mom,
I've tried that. My children are stubborn I guess, but they just whine more and then stomp off whining and screaming about how much they don't like me. If this is an indicator of how the teenage years will be I think I'm going to start shopping around for military schools to send them too....

    Val,
She's almost 6 and just started whining? Wow, Princesa just turned 5 and J is only 3 and they both started working on whining just about as soon as they could talk.

We're actually having a strangely cold winter. Normally it would be warm enough that I wouldn't worry about planting straight into the ground with most things, but we're still getting close to freezing at night so I only had Hubby plant seeds that could tolerate the cold and everything else is either being started inside or is waiting until around mid-March to be planted outside.

I have the birth certificates for the older two, but I don't have the baby's yet. I don't have to worry about hers for awhile though since she's not even 18 months yet. Good luck getting those from the state in a timely manner. What are you doing for school? Public, private, home, etc? We're going to try using one of the virtual public charter schools for the first year and see how it goes and then decide on what happens for 1st grade based on what we learn and experience during kindergarten. Still can't believe she's this old already...
