Quick Takes #12

1. I have had a very hard time waking up in the morning. Princesa and J have come up with an interesting way of dealing with this problem. They both come in and wake me up. While I'm in the shower they will actually make my bed and sit on it reading books until I'm ready to go make breakfast. At first it bothered me a little bit, but the mornings have been much smoother so I think we're all a bit happier with the current arrangement.

2. Princesa has been learning to read. We've been using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. We have done 29 out of the 100 lessons, and she's doing great! The way things are set up, as long as we keep going with a lesson a day she will finish shortly before she goes to spend a month with Yaya. She can't wait to have her very own books that she can read all by herself when she goes to see Yaya.

3. In less than a week, on April 1, I will be enrolling Princesa in kindergarten at Connections Academy. I am excited because she is growing up, but I am shocked and sad because she is growing up. I think one of the best and worst things about being a parent is watching the children grow up.

4. Friday night movie night has been a great motivator for Princesa and J. They both have a list of things they have to do during the week, and if everything is finish by dinner on Friday they get to stay up for a movie and popcorn. They have both worked hard this week to make sure all of their boxes are checked off so we're going to watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tonight.

5. In a little over a month I will be taking my last final and the winter/spring semester will be over. I will actually have a month off before my summer classes start. I'm looking forward to the break.

6. No-Meat Fridays are always interesting. I have a lot of fun finding new recipes or ideas for meatless dinners. Tonight we're going to have Asparagus Frittata and Latkes (potato pancakes). The kids are excited about having breakfast for dinner. I'm excited because I love asparagus and latkes. I think I'll post the recipes next week as part of Farmer's City Wife's Tasty Tuesday.

7. My garden is still growing well. I haven't completely killed anything, yet. When everything is a little bigger I'll take some pictures. I really hope this year's garden is more successful than last year's.
